Overview

University teaches you a lot of stuff. You gain knowledge and accreditation that just might help you to qualify for jobs you want to do. That technical knowledge is the price of entry. But is it the only qualifier? After you land that first real job out of university, you’ll learn lots more technical information that will qualify you to take on diverse responsibilities. But is that technical information the key to advancement, opportunities for growth and financial pay offs?

A phrase you will hear said by people doing hiring is “But are they a good fit”? Yeah, they have technical skills, but are they going to fit in our culture with their team and our clients? A maxim in hiring is “Hire for fit and train for knowledge and skills” Why? Because you can’t train fit and it’s that intangible that creates success.

Emotional Intelligence is fit. It’s the ability for people to be accurately self-aware and aware of others. It’s the capacity to be able to use social skills to make adjustments based on self and other awareness. It’s the practice of empathy in situations that divide people. It’s the aptitude of self-motivation and regulation that aid in combating procrastination and escalation.

Your brain is locked into habits in all aspects of your life. You have emotional intelligence habits. You developed these by coping with the environment you’ve lived in over the years. Some of the habits you’ve got are helping you, they are your strengths. Some of them are getting in your way. This course will help your brain to label these things and with those labels in place identify what to keep doing, and what to stop doing. This process is key to self-improvement. This course will help you to identify practical ways to improve your emotional intelligence competencies. You can improve your emotional intelligence! It’s the key to fit.
