Case: 

This month’s case involves a 50-year-old female warehouse worker who presents with left shoulder pain and numbness in the distribution of the ulnar nerve. The onset of symptoms occurred one month ago. The patient reports chronic headaches, dizziness, and fainting. While physiotherapy has provided temporary relief, the pain has not changed overall, and similar symptoms are now starting on the right side.

 

Case Presenter: Moe Fasihi, PT 

Moe is a UK trained physiotherapist. Moe works in both the public and private sectors.  Moe is certified in vestibular rehabilitation, concussion and TMJ management.  Moe uses a multimodal treatment approach that integrates the biopsychosocial aspects of patient care. Moe is dedicated to continuing his education and professional development to provide the best possible care for his patients as he pursues FCAMPT status.

Panelist: Erin Cox  FCAMPT, CCTT, CRAFTAâ certified, Dry Needling

Originally from Winnipeg, Erin graduated from the University of Manitoba in Physical Therapy in 1995 winning the Marie-Claude Saumure Memorial Award. In 2009, Erin started teaching in the AIM program in both French and English. Erin began developing her expertise in TMJ, headaches and orofacial pain in 1994. Erin has been a conference presenter on many an occasion including the University of McGill Dental Symposium; la Société Dentaire de Laval; la Société Québécoise de la douleur chronique; Canadian Academy of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics (CARDP), the AQPMA among others.

 

Panelist: May Nolan BSc.Physio, MClSc. (Manip), Dip Manip., FCAMPT

May is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Ireland (BSc. Physio) and University of Western Ontario (MClSc. Manipulative therapy).  She is an instructor and Examiner in the AIM program, a Clinical Associate Professor at UBC and an Instructor for the Graduate Certificate in Orthopaedic Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Program at UBC, and a supervisor for graduates completing their MRSc research projects.  May has received awards from the Irish Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (Clinical Excellence), Faculty of Medicine UBC (Clinical Excellence in Community Practice Teaching), Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (Excellence / Education) and a lifetime membership award in CAMPT. 

 

Panelist: Darryl Viegas BSc(PT), Dip. Manip., CGIMS, FCAMPT

Darryl graduated from the University of Toronto with a BSc(PT).  In 2005 Darryl completed the Advanced Diploma in Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy. Darryl is a senior instructor for the AIM program.  Darryl has continued his post graduate training with courses in exercise theory, medical acupuncture/dry needling, advanced spinal manipulation, advanced shoulder rehabilitation techniques, myofascial release and nerve mobilization techniques.  In his practice Darryl attempts to blend the use of manual therapy techniques with patient specific exercise programs and education in the treatment of patients with all orthopaedic conditions.
