Case: 

This month’s case is a 69-year-old female pickle ball player complaining of right hip pain and left low back pain radiating to left buttock and posterior thigh. These pains have been intermittent for the past year, but worsening in the past 6 weeks. She has responded well to physio in the past year but not this past 6 weeks. Can we get her back on the court?

 

Case Presenter: 

Stephanie Dumont, PT, BScPT, BScKin, CAFCI, 



Stephanie has been treating sports injuries for over 20 years. She is a level 4 orthopaedic manual therapist and is certified to practice acupuncture, dry needling, and spinal manipulation. 

During her career, she has had the opportunity to work with Olympic athletes, NHL and CFL athletes, nationally ranked competitive swimmers, fencers, Irish dancers, soccer players, and baseball players.  She was the physiotherapist for the 2019 World Champion in Irish dance. As a former competitive marathon runner and Ironman triathlete, she has a special interest in helping active older adults continue to enjoy their sport and physical activities at a high level.

Panelist:  Guylaine Boutin, Fellow PT, Dip Sport Physio, RISPT

Guylaine graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1990. Since doing her postgraduate diploma in Sports Physio, she has worked with Athletics Canada, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and is presently working with Tennis Canada with the women’s team.   She has been to many multisport Games including four Olympics (Sochi 2014, Rio 2016, PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020) as a COC health and services team member.  She was the Chief physiotherapist for the Winter Games in PyeongChang.  She founded A+ Physio in Bromont. She has taught at McGill University and since 2007 has continued to teach at the Université de Sherbrooke.

Panelist: David Lindsay BHMS BPhty MSc

David is an Australian-trained physiotherapist. He was the Head Physiotherapist at the University of Calgary Sport Medicine Centre. David is a co-founder of the Active Hip Centre in Calgary, where he continues to be involved in active clinical and research practice. He has been teaching post-graduate courses on hip and golf injury rehab (FitforGolf) since 1996. He has published over 35 peer-reviewed research manuscripts and contributed a chapter on golf injuries in David Magee’s latest book. David has been collaborating with hip surgeons and sport medicine specialists to develop a highly specialized hip differential diagnosis.

Panelist: William D. Stanish, MD, FRCS(C), FACS, FAOA

Dr. Stanish is a world-renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon. Throughout his career, Dr. Stanish was readily involved in the Olympic movement and continues to enthusiastically support the Special Olympics Nova Scotia Association. Dr. Stanish, as a clinical scientist, has fostered research in the areas of physiology and biomechanics of the tendon, ligament, and knee cartilage with peer reviewed publications exceeding 290, as well as co-authored highly regarded textbooks including “Oxford Textbook of Sports Medicine” and “Tendinitis: Its Etiology and Treatment”. Dr. Stanish has lectured worldwide and has been the recipient of many medals, honours, and awards, including being awarded the distinction of Professor Emeritus of Orthopaedic Surgery by Dalhousie University.
